Staged migration
Mailboxes are moved in batches over a predetermined time using a staged migration. The Directory Synchronization tool is necessary, which duplicates your accounts from the on-premises Active Directory database. Upon completion of the transaction, Office 365 will host all mailboxes.
Cutover migration
A cutover migration is a quick switch from an Exchange system hosted on-premises to Office 365. Everything about your account is moved simultaneously, including distribution groups, emails, and contacts. Everyone will have an Office 365 account after the transfer, and you cannot choose which objects to migrate.
Hybrid migration
You can combine Office 365 with your current directory services and on-premises Exchange servers with the Office 365 hybrid migration. Consequently, you can manage and synchronize user accounts between the two environments.
An IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) migration
lets you move users from Gmail or any other email system that supports IMAP migration. In contrast, the other three Office 365 migration options depend exclusively on Exchange. Information from your source mailboxes is transferred to Office 365 via an IMAP migration. Email is the only thing that is migrated with IMAP transfer, though. The user must manually move calendar entries, tasks, and contacts from the original inbox.
